PAINTING TIPS
BRUSH STROKES
Always paint with an even continual stroke with enough paint on your brush, but not too much paint to create a nice smooth flow. Too little paint on brush will drag paint and become too dry. Too much paint on brush could create thick, lumpy or drippy texture. Sanding in between coats will also help smooth out any brush marks and make for a smoother finish.
SEALING PAINT CAN PROPERLY
When storing paint to avoid air contamination, place a piece of plastic wrap inside can directly on top touching left over paint. Hammer lid down, then tape around can lid to seal. Always store paint in a temperature controlled room, not in garage.
It is VERY important to allow paint to fully cure to its hardest finish at least 14 days. Any hard hits could leave a blemish.
Do not let paint “Puddle” leaving excess paint in deeper pockets, such as corners or recessed areas, Puddling will take longer to dry and could appear thicker or globby in those areas.
If your painted finish is no longer desired, it would be difficult to remove or sand off Farmhouse Paint, due to the adhesion power and tough durability of Farmhouse Paint. To remove paint, you would most likely have to strip your piece with a chemical paint stripper, beware of a veneer. If only a color change is desired, just clean and paint over existing finish.
Although Farmhouse Paint does not need wax or topcoat; either may be used if desired after paint has dried at least 48 hours.
For best results, use a good quality brush. Farmhouse Paint offers FARMHOUSE PRO SERIES BRUSHES, designed for specific painting applications with unique attention to detail, and are available in a variety of styles.
Spraying gives the best all-around finish and a good option for a professional finish if the working environment will allow for spraying. Depending on sprayer, you can dilute with water up to 15%. For best result spray with consistent, thin coats, drying between layers.
Farmhouse Paint has a self-leveling agent which helps reduce brush marks and evens out finish. Although everyone paints differently, each person may have different results.
Depending on the color you choose to paint with, the pigments used to produce that color and the substrate color you are painting on, will all vary results. Our light colors may take several coats, especially if painting over a dark surface. Our medium to dark colors may cover in one coat, or with an additional touch up coat. Results will also vary if you want a distressed finish or a completely solid coverage
Lightly sand damaged spot, remove dust, then touch up area with paint. Or try just touching up spot with a hint of paint.
If can is left open without lid, paint could thicken. Water may be added and vigorously stirred but may not always come back to life. For best results while painting, do not leave lid off too long in-between strokes. Try pouring desired amount of paint in a Farmhouse Project Paint Tray, closing can lid till more is needed.
